For Microsoft fonts, install the msttcorefonts package. It can be installed either using Synaptic Package Manager or apt-get.
For Synaptic Package Manage, open it from System-> Adminstration. Search for msttcorefonts and install it.
For apt-get, issue the following command
sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
The new fonts should be available to use. If you face a problem, do log in again.
